July is Healthy Vision Month. How are you protecting your eyes

Do you remember the last time that you watched a sunset? What about a rainbow or the even more elusive double-rainbow? Our vision, which is one of our five senses, is essential for our quality of life.

For so many of us, we take our vision for granted until it is almost gone.

As we age it is common to notice a change in our vision. Older adults are at a higher risk for certain eye diseases and conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, and glaucoma.

Prevention is one of the greatest tools that we have to protect our sight. Make sure to encourage seniors to have regular eye exams, maintain a balanced diet, if they are diabetic to keep it under control, and wearing protective eyewear. Taking these steps to protect our vision is important as we age.

Poor vision could lead to an increase in falls, Care to Stay Home doesn’t want to have that happen. It has been shown that poor eyesight can increase the risk for falls of seniors. At Care To Stay Home fall prevention and keeping our clients safe is our top priority.
